STARTING PRE-SCHOOL

Starting Pre-School

Children’s names are put on the waiting list. Shortly before their due starting date the Manager will contact you to discuss how many sessions you require and which days you would prefer. We will do our best to accommodate you, but at busy times of the year it is not always possible to have a choice of days. You will be invited to come along and visit the group prior to joining us, this will help to familiarize your child with the surroundings and the adults that will be caring for them. You are welcome to stay for the first sessions if you feel this is necessary. You will be asked to complete a Pre-School registration form and an initial profile form. The information given on these forms will remain confidential.

Clothing

All children should wear suitable clothing and soft shoes. The Pre-School has its own uniform. We would very much like your children to wear their uniform during every session. The smart blue embroidered sweatshirts and teeshirts allow the children to participate in all the activities (including the messy ones!) without harming their own clothes. Wearing the uniform helps children to feel part of the group and prepares them for the time when most of them will be wearing a school uniform. Sweatshirts, polos and teeshirts can be obtained from the Manager.

Parents / Carers

We aim to welcome parents/carers into the group, and hope that they will take an active role during their child’s time in Pre-School, either by becoming a committee member, helping with and supporting fund-raising events or bringing a particular skill to the group. The Pre-School has a set of policies covering issues such as Admissions, Behaviour Management, Health and Safety, Equal Opportunities, Special Educational Needs and we ask that Parent/Carers read these and sign them to say that they understand and agree with these policies. We feel that working in partnership with parents on such issues helps to build good relationships.

Staffing:

The staff to child ratio is currently 1:6. Most staff have a relevant qualification in child care and regularly participate in training courses. At least one member of staff at each session has current First Aid training.

Key Workers:

When your child begins Pre-School a member of staff will be assigned as their key worker. The responsibility of a key worker is to form a good relationship with you and your child and, although children will spend time with all the adults in the group the key worker will monitor, assess and record your child’s progress. This helps us to meet the needs of each individual child. We hope that you will participate in keeping the assessment records up to date by either writing in your child’s assessment record or by passing on any significant achievements that your child has made at home. You are always welcome to view your child’s assessment records and speak to your child’s keyworker .
